FOUNDER'S STORY - WHY I DANCE FOR HUMANITY:
When I was 14 years old, I was diagnosed with cancer (Hodgkin's Lymphoma). My mother began to research and discovered there was a high incidence of childhood cancer in my town. She joined a local group who worked with the Department of Public Health to investigate and discover that the cancer was linked to environmental pollution caused by a local manufacturing company dumping chemicals which contaminated the soil, groundwater, and our drinking water. I was fortunate to live, however, there were others who did not. I dance for them and for all those who cannot.
During this time, dance came alive for me. It was the one place in which I felt free, happy, healthy and secure in my body. It has helped me heal and has fueled me ever since. I dance for my own continued healing and growth and for the wellbeing of all.
It only makes sense to me to come full circle - that we dance together for the wellbeing of all people and the planet and for the brighest path for ourselves and future generations. This is why I dance for humanity.
I am the Founder of Dance for Humanity. As a Community Dance-Making Leader, Choreographer and Performing Artist, I'm passionate about leading community dance-making events to guide dance lovers to co-create and perform dances for good - for personal and collective wellbeing and eco-social causes. I love engaging movement/dance, mindfulness, and healthy embodiment and co-creation skills so we can all move forward together to create a happier, healthier world for all.
I specialize in improvisational, expressive forms such as Contemplative Dance/Authentic Movement, as well as Salsa and Afro-Latin Dance and have previously performed globally with professional Afro-Latin Dance company, Masacote Entertainment, on notable stages such as Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Center in New York.
I have also served as a Holistic Life/Career Coach, Group Facilitator and Meditation Teacher with 11+ years of experience, including at MIT and in private practice.
Education and Credentials
I hold a B.A. in Psychology from Tufts University, M.Ed. from Suffolk University, Four Forces Interpersonal and Group Facilitator Certification, Certificate in Mindfulness and Psychotherapy, and Koru Mindfulness Teacher Certification. I have also completed the Contemplative Dance/Authentic Movement Week 1 experience and Grounding Your Village: Ecovillage and Intentional, Sustainable Community Development course.
